The Botox Boogemen

Oh how I love the Texas legislative session! It is a time of cultural norms to clash with lawmakers and special interests! A time to be heard! A time to blame and be blamed! We work in the female dominated industry of nursing and beauty. Most who knew me growing up, are probably not surprised. We did each other's hair and make-up, we bartered our clothing to start trends, and we worshipped the beauty magazines. In Nursing school, I sold Avon to my instructors. As a Nurse Practitioner, this role came easily but not without plenty of liability, hard work, and sacrifice.
For the past ten years... I've gotten to know what I call the "Botox Boogeyman". Every few years or so, the Turf Battle ensues over who can and can't provide cosmetic services. I used to get sooo bent out of shape! (eyeroll) Thankfully, we live in a pro-business, pro-professional state! What's unique about this year, is that an emotionally charged issue can truly swing the pendulum. This CEO and article could not have summed it up any better. We cannot be more thankful for the men and women in power who speak on our behalf. These individuals know how far we have come while juggling raising families, etc. I have all the faith that Texas will not allow monopolizing of an entire female dominated industry on a FALSE claim of leverage. The actual FACTS speak loudly. And the "Botox Boogeymen" can leave us alone!
